ARTIGER

A perspective from Saat Saath

The Project

  • Involve artists to paint life size sculptures of the tiger. Pay each of them an honorarium of Rs 30,000.
  • Sell each tiger to a corporate at Rs 1.5 lakhs each.
  • Minus the expenses, donate the money to The Ranthambore Foundation.
  • The final tiger allocation was done through a blind draw audited by Grant Thornton.
  • Before being handed over to the corporates, each tiger was displayed in public spaces across New Delhi.
  • In the process, put into place India’s first cohesive public art project.

The Result

  • 58 of India’s leading artists participated.
  • 57 tigers were sold to corporates.
  • 1 tiger was gifted to Mrs Sonia Gandhi, Chairperson, Indira Gandhi Memorial Trust.
  • Rashtrapati Bhavan arranged for all 58 tigers to be displayed through a special 10-day exhibition.
  • The final draw happened at The Taj Mahal, New Delhi.
